Florida is a state packed with natural wonders, and the Everglades National Park is among America's most famous. Covering 1.5 million acres of swamps, saw-grass prairies, and sub-tropical jungles, the Everglades constitutes the wildest public park in the United States. Way down on the tropical southern tip of Florida, the park houses innumerable rare and endangered species, such as the little known American Crocodile, the Florida Panther, and the West Indian Manatee. There are also surviving pockets of Seminole Indians living in the park. It is a haven for scientists and explorers, and is surely one of the most adventurous things to do in Miami, without actually being in Miami. Hiking, camping and canoeing are all extensively performed for leisure throughout the Everglades. Today, it is a wonderland of natural treasure, a paradise that is yours to discover!

The region has its mysteries, such as the Bermuda Triangle, but possibly the most solid and real mystery in Florida is Coral Castle in Homestead, close to Miami. Coral Castle is one of the most mysterious structures ever built, and has even been compared to Stonehenge, and the great pyramids of Egypt! It is an amazing accomplishment, chiefly (but not only) because it was quarried, carved, transported, and built by one individual, Edward Leedskalnin, a 5-ft. tall, 100-lb. Latvian immigrant. Leedskalnin's decision to use tons of coral as building materials is what makes the feat so unbelievable. The massive coral blocks, some weighing as much as 30 tons, were mysteriously lifted and set in place without use of modern machines. Approximately 1,000 tons of coral rock were used in construction of the walls and ornate towers, and a further 100 tons of it were carved into the furniture and ornamental devices with which the whole bizarre structure is decorated. If you see nothing else in Miami, please see this wonder of the world.
